Passionate about exploring the outdoors, Edward Abbott Ravenscroft has visited scenic parks and wilderness areas across the United States. Edward Abbott Ravenscroft has also had the opportunity to travel abroad to Iceland.
Rich in natural landscapes, Iceland is situated on the border of the North Atlantic and the Arctic oceans and is known for its glaciers and waterfalls.
Glaciers are a prominent feature in the virtually treeless Iceland countryside, and although they only make up 10 percent of the country’s area, they are among the largest remaining glaciers in Europe. They are a source of pure water and fast moving rivers that feed dramatic natural features such as the Gullfoss waterfall. Located some two hours north of Reykjavík, the “golden” waterfall drops into a river-filled canyon at a dramatic perpendicular angle.
The country’s highest waterfall, Glymur reaches 198 meters and is located near the coast on Hvalfjörður fjord. Glymur is best reached through a half-day hike that takes visitors through a varied landscape of lava fields, birch forest, and canyons. Featuring panoramic views of an Arctic landscape, the hike also includes sights such as a small cave situated beside a mossy stream.
